Train-the-Trainer Workshop on Geo-Informatics for Mountain Environment Management

Kathmandu. The train-the-trainer workshop on “Geo-Informatics for Mountain Environment” was held at the training room of the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) from 1-11 September 2008. This train-the-trainer workshop was organised by Eurasia-Pacific UNINET (E-P Uninet) and its member institutions in collaboration with ICIMOD and coordinated by the Austrian Academy of Sciences-GIScience, Salzburg, Austria.The aim of this workshop was to generate awareness about the mountain environments as well as to exchange the experience in mountain focused applications of GeoInformatics. Some specific application of GeoInformatics such as environmental specificities of high mountain, natural resource management, protected area management and geo-hazard and environmental risk management were covered during the training.
The significance of this undertaking was to train teachers and postgraduate students involved in the fields of geo-Informatics and mountain environment management in order to ensure a high multiplier effect. Altogether 21 participants from five different countries including Nepal Bangladesh, Bhutan, India and Russia participated in this workshop.
